I was just thinking about the phrase ‘Mind Control’ and found this:

Where did that come from?

I wish there was a machine that recorded your internal thoughts so you could share them later, but then that machine would need to have some sort of way to privately delete some thoughts, because frankly there are some thoughts that are not worth sharing and or would be embarrassing and could get you into trouble.

I think it’s interesting how my mind works, when I was younger I would often make statements seemingly out of the blue that would cause those around me to ask “where did that come from?” then I would have to explain how I came to that statement that I had made. I know that my mind still works like that today but I have learned to control what statement I make as to not have to explain myself trying to help others navigate the seemingly random way my mind works.

For example, earlier tonight I was watching a documentary which led to me thinking how much I liked learning things. One of the reasons I realized I like learning things is that I can then dispense that knowledge later and seem smart. That thought led me to thinking about how obnoxious I found people who started every sentence with “did you know” like some how they were better than me because they knew something that I did not. Side note, that leads me to think about how good it feel to say “yes I did know that” or even better saying “actually, did you know this?” To combat seeming obnoxious when sharing things I have learned or worse, being proven wrong, I have come up with mechanisms to work around the “did you know” phrase.

That led to thinking about how that is what a sales person does, they want you to know something (how great their product is) but they can’t just come out and tell you what they want you to know, they want you to think it was your idea, that you came up with this brilliant idea that they just happen to have a product just like that. The best sales people and marketing campaigns know that they have to earn the right to be heard, earn the right to tell you about their product and why it’s the answers to all the problems you didn’t know you had until they showed up.

Which led me to thinking about my life, and how I present myself and that a large part of how I have structured my life, mannerisms, speech and over all appearance is to sell you something… me. Like if I am talking to someone and if I know I have to say something that someone can argue with or disagree with I like to start out my thought with the phrase “I feel like…” that way if they disagree or are able to point out some logical fallacy in my thought I can say “Well, that’s just how I feel” because no one can tell you that you don’t feel something.

And often it’s those thought processes that lead to some of my favorite observations about life. I will have one idea that gets the ball rolling and twenty moves later I will come up with a seemingly random thought.

This leads me back to my original statement about recording your internal thoughts. I was lying in bed thinking about the movie I saw called “Limitless” and how great it would be if I could actually access all of my mental ability like the lead character in the movie does. Then I started thinking about how fun that would be throwing out ideas a minute. It would be hard to keep track of all those great ideas that were coming out of your brain; you would need some sort of machine to record those thoughts. It would also need to be a machine where I didn’t have to speak because I feel that saying my thoughts aloud so they could be recorded is really just repeating the thoughts I already had which is exactly what I was trying to avoid with my mind recording device anyways.
